The Sarasota Restaurants I Send Every New Client To
When someone new lands on the Gulf Coast, one of the first questions I get is not about square footage or school districts. It is, “Rich, where should we eat?” I love that question, because the food scene here is one of the best-kept secrets about living in Sarasota. So here are the restaurants I actually send my clients to, the ones I would take my own family to on a Friday night. Some are fancy enough for a closing-day celebration, some are about as casual as flip-flops allow, and every single one is the real deal. Think of this as your Gulf Coast cheat sheet, straight from someone who happily eats his way around this town for a living.
Veronica Fish & Oyster
If you want to celebrate closing on your new home in style, start here. Veronica Fish & Oyster is the polished end of Sarasota seafood, an upscale raw bar with velvet booths and a marble bar that feels like a night out in a much bigger city. The oysters are pristine and the room has genuine energy. This is where I send clients marking a milestone, and it never disappoints.
Owen’s Fish Camp
On the complete other end of the spectrum, and just as beloved, is Owen’s Fish Camp in Burns Court. This is Southern comfort food done right: shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and a rustic, vine-covered setting that feels like old Florida. Fair warning, there is almost always a wait, and it is worth every minute. Put your name in, grab a drink, and settle into the neighborhood. It is a rite of passage for anyone new to town.
Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar, St. Armands Circle
Anyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for Tommy Bahama, so of course it makes the list. The St. Armands Circle location leans all the way into that island-inspired, vacation-every-day feeling, with tropical cocktails and a patio built for people-watching. St. Armands itself is worth the trip, a walkable circle of shops and restaurants a short hop from Lido Key. Make a whole afternoon of it.
Food & Beer
Not every great meal is a special occasion, and that is where Food & Beer comes in. It is a casual gastropub with seriously good burgers, hand-cut fries, and a rotating craft beer list that keeps regulars coming back. This is my answer when a client asks for a laid-back neighborhood spot where you can show up in flip-flops and still eat really well.
Cafe Amici
Every town needs a family Italian place you can count on, and Cafe Amici is Sarasota’s. Generous pasta, wood-fired flavor, and the kind of family-run hospitality that makes you feel like a regular by your second visit. It is comfort food with a Gulf Coast address, and it is exactly the sort of spot that turns a new address into a home.
Why This Matters More Than You Think
Here is the thing I tell every buyer: you are not just choosing a house, you are choosing a life, and the everyday places are a huge part of that life. The restaurant where you become a regular, the circle where you spend your Saturdays, the fish camp where you take out-of-town guests, these are the things that make a new place feel like yours. It is why I spend so much time out in the community and on camera, getting to know the people and places that make the Gulf Coast special.
If you want more of that local flavor before you ever move, my video series takes you inside these spots and dozens more, from restaurants to new developments. And if you are still figuring out which part of the Gulf Coast to call home, my communities guide breaks down all nine of the areas I know best.
How I Find the Good Ones
People sometimes ask how I know all these spots, and the honest answer is that I make it my business to. I spend a lot of my time out in the community and on camera, sitting down with the owners and chefs behind these places, hearing their stories, and tasting what they are proud of. That is genuinely the fun part of being a local Realtor. I am not only selling houses, I am plugged into the neighborhoods those houses sit in.
So when you work with me, you are not just getting an agent, you are getting the guy who can tell you where to get the best oysters, which wait is worth it, and which brand-new spot everyone will be talking about in six months. It is the same local knowledge I bring to helping you choose a neighborhood, negotiate a deal, or settle in after a big move. It all comes from actually being here and paying attention.
Don’t Be Shy About Exploring
The five places above are a starting point, not the whole story. Honestly, half the fun of a new town is finding your own favorites: the little breakfast spot around the corner, the bar where the bartender learns your name, the taco stand you would never have found on a review site. Sarasota is full of them, and new ones open all the time.
My advice to every new client is the same. Get out, talk to people, and follow the recommendations of the folks who actually live here, not just the star ratings online. Before long you will have a whole list of your own, the everyday places that quietly turn a new address into a home. That is the part of moving here I love watching most.
