Where Is the Best Place to Get Your Car Washed in Sarasota?

As a Realtor on the run here in Sarasota, one of the things I have to stay on top of is keeping my car clean, inside and out. I am in and out of that car all day with clients, and a spotless vehicle is part of showing up the right way. So when I found a spot that actually does it well, I had to introduce you. In this episode I met up with Howard Reck at the Finest Hand Car Wash, out in the Marina Jack parking lot, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite people in town. Here is our full conversation.

A Passion That Started at Age Ten

Howard’s story is my favorite part of this one. He has had a passion for cars his whole life and has been in the detailing business since he was about ten years old. His dad owned a siding company and used to bring him along to work, where he put young Howard with a detailing guy who taught him the craft. Fast forward to today, Howard is 60, and he is still at it, only now it is his own operation on the Sarasota bayfront.

He moved to Sarasota about four years ago, which happens to be right around the same time my family made our own move down here. I always enjoy meeting people who took the same leap, and it is a reminder of how much of this city is built by folks who chose to be here.

He Saw a Gap and Spent Three Years Filling It

When Howard got to town, he noticed something missing. There were plenty of mobile detailers, but no standalone hand car wash that was reasonably priced and still delivered really good service. That is a real gap in a market full of nice cars, and rather than complain about it, he went after it.

Here is the part that shows you how serious he was. He spent three years negotiating with the marina to get his 42 feet of space in that parking lot. Three years. Now he has four bays, nearly five, and he handles everything from raised pickup trucks to Maybach SUVs, from a ten thousand dollar daily driver to a million dollar car. That range tells you plenty about both his operation and this town.

The Idea: Dine and Get Your Car Washed

The concept is genuinely smart, and it solves the exact problem I have. When I am running between showings, I do not have an hour and a half to sit at somebody’s shop waiting on a detail. Howard built his business as a value-added service to Marina Jack, so you can dine and get your car washed, or get your car washed and then eat. It works in either direction. You hand over the keys, go enjoy the water view over a meal, and come back to a clean car.

Everybody wins in that arrangement. Guests get a premium service, the restaurant sees people stay a little longer, and busy professionals like me get our time back. And he told me he is looking at extending the same concept to other locations around town, which makes a lot of sense.

White Uniforms and Video Inspections

What sold me is the attention to detail, which is exactly what you want from a detailer. Everything his team wears is white, from the hats to the shirts to the shoes. It is a small thing that signals a much bigger one, which is that they take exceptionally good care of everybody’s car.

They also shoot a free walkaround video before they start, so there is a clear record that there is no damage anywhere, and then an after video when the work is done. Then they ask for reviews, and Howard says they have gotten nothing but five stars so far. Honestly, for anyone nervous about handing over the keys to a nice vehicle, that video process alone is worth knowing about.

At the time we filmed, they were about two months into their grand opening and running four packages at introductory pricing, which Howard mentioned would be going up as they settle in. So if you have been meaning to try them, sooner is better than later.

Why a Realtor Cares About a Car Wash

This might seem like an odd topic for a real estate channel, but it really is not. If you drive clients around for a living, or you meet customers anywhere in this town, your car is part of your presentation. Whether it is a daily commuter or a luxury car, keeping it sharp makes an impression, and finding a trustworthy place that respects your time is a genuine problem worth solving.

It is also a great example of what I love about Sarasota right now. Someone spots a gap, spends three years earning the right location, and builds something better than what was there before. Howard’s Own Sarasota Picks

I always close these by asking what else people should check out, whether they are new in town, visiting, or have simply stopped looking around. Howard had a few good ones, and they are all right there on the bayfront.

First, he thinks a lot of people do not take enough advantage of Marina Jack and that view. Second, while you are down there, walk into Bayfront Park, which he called amazing, and stop at O’Leary’s, which is part of the park. He noted that between the hurricanes and the renovations that followed, there is a lot of fresh work in that area, so you will be pleasantly surprised. And for downtown, he pointed to Food and Beer as the kind of spot where people know your name, a little like Cheers. That one made me smile, because I sat down with the owner a while back for my story on the story behind Food + Beer.
